Audition Requirements

RULES & ELIGIBILITY FOR PIANO AUDITIONS

​The Music Academy of Kansas City Crossroads Music Auditions is open to young musicians of Kansas and Missouri Residence.

1. Applicants will be divided into 4 divisions by grade:

• Division I: Kindergarten – Grade 2
• Division II: Grade 3 – Grade 5
• Division III: Grade 6 – Grade 8
• Division IV: Grade 9 – Grade 12

2. Applications must be submitted online by midnight Sunday, March 22, 2026.

3. Non-refundable fee of $45 has to be paid at the time of enrollment. Applications will not be accepted without payment.

4. Applicants will be notified of their performance date and time by e-mail no later than Friday, April 3, 2026.

5. Applicants must check-in at least 20 minutes before their performance time.

6. All decisions by the judges are final.

7. Competition performances are open to the public.

REPERTOIRE REQUIREMENTS

1. All music must be played from memory.

2. Applicants must provide the judges with an original score (no photocopies) of their pieces.

• Division I: Two pieces of contrasting style and character with a duration of no more than 5 minutes (accompanied pieces are allowed).
• Division II: Two solo pieces of contrasting style and character with a duration of no more than 10 minutes.
• Division III: Two solo pieces of contrasting style and character with a duration of no more than 15 minutes.
• Division IV: Two solo pieces of contrasting style and character with duration of no more than 20 minutes.
  

CASH PRIZES AND AWARDS

After the completion of each division, Division winners will be announced, and cash prizes and certificates will be awarded.

DIVISION IV (Grades 9 – 12)

1st Place: 1st place trophy and $50
2nd Place: 2nd place trophy and $25
3rd Place: 3rd place trophy and $15

DIVISION III (Grades 6-8)

1st Place: 1st place trophy and $30
2nd Place: 2nd place trophy and $20
3rd Place: 3rd place trophy and $10  

DIVISION II and DIVISION I (Grades K – 5)

1st Place: 1st place trophy and $20
2nd Place: 2nd place trophy and $15
3rd Place: 3rd place trophy and $10
